About us

In 1969, Stig P was founded by Stig Petersen, with the first store located on Kronprinsensgade in the heart of Copenhagen. From the beginning, Stig P specialized in designs consisting of leather goods and furniture. Over time, the store expanded its range to include carefully selected designer brands in addition to their own leather design. In the 2000s, Stig P launched their own clothing collection, and a few years later, the brand Coatpeople was introduced with a focus on quality knitwear and outerwear. Despite this development, Stig P remains rooted in the fundamental values that Stig Petersen laid down in 1969, namely quality, design, good working conditions, and shared responsibility.

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond just the choice of materials we use. We prioritize the use of GOTS-certified organic cotton, which undergoes strict environmental and social criteria from field to finished product. This certification ensures that our cotton is grown and processed with minimal environmental impact while also ensuring good working conditions for those involved in production.

We carefully select natural fibers such as organic cotton, wool, linen, and lyocell from European suppliers. The majority of our clothing is made from "deadstock", which helps to reduce the waste of surplus and leftover materials.

We have our garments and jerseys sewn at a small factory in Portugal, while our knitwear is produced in a small town in Tuscany, Italy. Having our clothing sewn and knitted here ensures not only excellent craftsmanship and quality but also reduces transportation distances and CO2 emissions. This is an essential part of our desire to deliver high-quality products with consideration for both our customers and the climate.
